It is that time of year again. Time get up early, drive out to Buhl, claim your spot, suffer through the heat, and enjoy the Sagebrush Days parade. The parade is set to take place on the Fourth of July, and attending is a tradition that many families in the Magic Valley have every year for the holiday. For some, this could be your first year going, for others it might be your tenth, twentieth, or more. If you have never attended the parade, there are a few things to know, and if you have, there are some things to be reminded of, since it has been a year since the last one.

Last year, it was baffling to me to see chairs tied to light polls, tied together, and lining the streets of downtown Buhl. People begin claiming their spots for the parade, up to 24 hours before it ever begins. I had never seen this before, but it has been going on for years. On the day of the parade, I understood why, as the small town of Buhl had to more than triple in population the morning of the Fourth of July. If you plan on attending this year, make sure to head out the day before to claim a good spot, either with your truck or chairs. Down Broadway and Main are the two main streets you will want to stick to, or perhaps you have a favorite spot you have used in the past.

The parade will begin at 10 AM on the Fourth, and while many will leave town after it is over, stick around for more events in the city park to celebrate the holiday and enjoy all of the Sagebrush Days festivities, that you can find by clicking the link. When putting out your chairs, they are likely to be safe overnight, but perhaps use a chair that isn't your favorite, just in case the worst happens. You might not be as comfortable, but your favorite chair would be safe. Check out the pictures above to get an example of the extent people will go to for a good spot at the parade.
