Fatal Crashes Across Idaho Over the Weekend
According to Idaho State Police (ISP) press releases, there were a series of fatal accidents on Idaho roadways over the weekend, resulting in three lives lost in separate incidents. ISP continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding each one.
Single-Vehicle Fatal Crash Near Idaho/Washington Border
On October 7, 2024, a single-vehicle accident occurred on SH58 near the Idaho/Washington border in Kootenai County. At approximately 2:59 p.m., a 37-year-old man from Deer Park, Washington, was driving a red 2022 Kenworth truck westbound when he lost control and left the roadway, causing the truck to overturn in a ditch.
Emergency responders, including Idaho State Police and Coeur d'Alene Tribal Police, arrived on the scene. The driver was extricated from the vehicle and airlifted to Kootenai Health but was pronounced dead upon arrival. The crash led to a 5½-hour road closure while authorities processed the scene. The driver was reportedly wearing his seatbelt. ISP confirmed that the driver’s next of kin had been notified.
Two-Vehicle Fatal Crash in Caldwell
On October 11, 2024, at 10:54 a.m., Idaho State Police responded to a fatal two-vehicle collision in Caldwell, Idaho. A 42-year-old female from Caldwell was traveling westbound on Cleveland Boulevard when she veered off the road and struck a parked semi-truck at the intersection of Canal Street. The truck, a 2023 Freightliner semi pulling a 2013 trailer, was being operated by a 62-year-old man from Nampa.
The driver of the Ford Focus was not wearing a seatbelt and succumbed to her injuries at the scene. ISP is continuing to investigate the circumstances of this tragic accident.
Teen Dies in Single-Vehicle Rollover in Valley County
Another fatality occurred on October 10, 2024, in Valley County when a 19-year-old driver lost control of his Dodge Ram on No Business Rd at 9:06 p.m. The vehicle failed to negotiate a curve, left the roadway, and rolled down an embankment, coming to rest against two trees.
The driver, from Donnelly, Idaho, was pronounced dead at the scene, while a 20-year-old passenger, also from Donnelly, escaped the crash without injury. Neither occupant was wearing a seatbelt. Traffic on No Business Rd was briefly slowed while emergency personnel cleared the area. The Valley County Sheriff's Office and Donnelly Fire assisted ISP in the response.
Fatal Crash on I-84 in Payette County
On October 12, 2024, at approximately 10:17 a.m., a 54-year-old woman from Garden City was driving a white 2014 Kia Sportage westbound on Interstate 84 near milepost 1 in Payette County. The vehicle veered off the left shoulder and rolled into the opposite lanes of travel, coming to rest on the roadway.
The driver, who was wearing a seatbelt, succumbed to her injuries at the scene. The eastbound lanes of I-84 were blocked for approximately three hours while ISP and emergency personnel responded.
