Fatal Incident: Officer-Involved Shooting Near Mountain Home
A man died following and an officer-involved shooting involving Idaho State Police (ISP) troopers near Mountain Home, Idaho. The Elmore County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating the incident.
High-Speed Pursuit on I-84
The incident began just after midnight on September 9, when an ISP trooper observed a Honda Accord speeding westbound on I-84 near milepost 172 in Jerome County. A second trooper later spotted the same vehicle and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. When the driver failed to comply, a high-speed pursuit ensued along the westbound lanes of I-84.

Attempts to Stop the Vehicle
The Honda Accord was driven recklessly at high speeds during the chase, and multiple attempts to stop the vehicle using spike strips were initially unsuccessful. However, at milepost 98, spike strips were successfully deployed, causing the vehicle to stop.
Officer-Involved Shooting
After the vehicle was stopped, ISP troopers issued verbal commands to the driver. During the attempted arrest, shots were fired, and the male driver was struck. Emergency medical aid was administered, but the driver ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
Investigation Underway
Westbound lanes of I-84 were closed at milepost 98 for the investigation which is being conducted by the Elmore County Sheriff's Office.
The Elmore County Coroner’s Office will take custody of the deceased and determine the cause and manner of death. The identity of the driver will be released once the next of kin has been notified.
There were no other injuries reported during the incident.
