There are many lakes in Idaho that residents and tourists enjoy visiting each year. Many from around the country will visit the Gem State each year to take in some of the most beautiful lakes in the country. Many in the state enjoy escaping for a day or a weekend to these lakes to enjoy fishing, kayaking, boating, and swimming. These lakes are great places to take in Idaho's beauty, enjoy time as a family, and create memories during the summer. One lake in Idaho is no longer safe for families and children to visit after a recent occurrence had families fleeing the lake in a hurry.

One popular lake that residents in the Magic Valley enjoy visiting is Dierkes Lake. It is also a popular destination for tourists as it is near Shoshone Falls, which brings in many guests each year to Southern Idaho. It has often been a great place for Magic Valley residents to enjoy an afternoon, an evening, or a whole day playing in the water, enjoying the grass area, fishing, paddle boarding, and jumping off the cliffs. Recently, an incident occurred that had families flocking to their cars to escape the area after it was brought to many people's attention what was happening. If you are someone who enjoys visiting the area, you may want to be aware of what could happen before you go the next time.

Children Being Targeted at Dierkes Lake?

A recent Facebook post has been making the rounds, claiming that a group of men who are not with women or children have been watching children at the lake, pointing them out to each other, and taking pictures. According to the post, this group consists of around 10 to 12 men and has been happening for the last few weeks. There have been complaints, but legally, the men are not breaking any laws by standing there, talking, and taking pictures in a public place. While it may make parents and families uncomfortable, legally, things are in check. Many have and will jump to conclusions about what their purpose is and their intentions, but unless something occurs, these are only assumptions. It is best not to leave your children alone while loading and unloading the car or going to the restroom, and if you are uncomfortable, it might be best to do what others have done and pack up and leave.

With trafficking being a major issue in the United States, and Idaho having seen far too many cases over the last few years, parents are on high alert, and actions like the one above point towards potential trafficking taking place at Dierkes. The hope is that this is not the case, and that it doesn't take a child disappearing to prove the theories right. You can read the full Facebook post in the paragraph above, and if you see any odd behavior at Dierkes this summer, make sure to notify authorities immediately.
