Medical service in Idaho has never been considered one of the best in the country, but perhaps it should be. The medical care is not terrible, but with cities and towns spread out well in the Gem State, it limits the options and access. The doctors we do have are typically pretty good, but it isn't surprising due to the population that most seek to be in other areas. Perhaps they are in the wrong location though and missing out by not being in Idaho. When it comes to being a doctor what is the best state to be in, which is the worst, and why should doctors consider settling in Idaho?

When it comes to deciding where a doctor should start their practice, there are multiple things to consider, and certain states offer different opportunities. WalletHub recently released a list of the best and worst states to be a doctor and used a couple of categories to determine their list, such as opportunity and competition, and medical environment. According to the list, Montana is the best state to be a doctor in, with South Dakota being second. Utah has the best medical environment, with Alabama having the best opportunity and competition. The worst state to be a doctor in is Hawaii, with Rhode Island being the second worst, and Alaska rounding out the bottom three.

When it comes to choosing which state to be a doctor in, Idaho is a pretty good option. According to the list, Idaho is the third-best state for doctors, ranking 7 in opportunity and competition, and 5 in medical environment. With a lower population and only one big city, the competition is less, making it more likely that a doctor will have enough patients that they have to turn some away. Another thing working in Idaho's favor is that they rank as the fifth least expensive annual malpractice liability insurance.

There is less competition, it is more affordable, and with a great medical environment, doctors may want to consider moving to Idaho and beginning a practice here. With so much working for it, the medical system in Idaho should be one of the best and some of the best doctors should consider calling the Gem State home sooner than later.
