Costco in ID, WA, and UT Will Not Be Selling This Item
Costco is one of the most popular places to shop in the country. They offer a variety of products and sell them in bulk. While some don't prefer bulk shopping, there are other reasons to shop at Costco. They have books, toys, clothes, medicine, diapers, and also food, office supplies, televisions, and much more. There is a reason that it is one of the most successful retail chains in the country. While it seems like Costco sells everything, there are some items they don't carry, and one item in particular will not be found on Costco shelves after making a decision.
Abortion Drug Will Not Be Sold at Costco
Abortion is a heavy topic that some prefer not to discuss, while others fight for one side or the other. This article is not about being for or against abortion, but instead about a product that will not be sold in Costco that would give women the choice to do as they choose. Mifepristone is a drug that is sold and is known for miscarriage management, or also as an abortion pill. Costco has been debating whether to add the item to its shelves recently, but has officially decided not to carry the item after being pressured by a company in Idaho to resist selling it. Was it the company that convinced Costco, or was there another reason to not sell the item?
Why Costco Won't Sell Mifepristone
A company in Idaho encouraged Costco not to sell the item. The company is Inspire, an investment firm based out of Boise that offers its customers biblically responsible portfolios and pressures the retail chain. Costco ultimately decided not to stock mifepristone, but not because of the Idaho company, but instead, they stated that their customers didn't have enough demand for the product, and it wasn't worth investing in. With abortion medication on the rise in the United States, Costco's choice not to carry the abortion pill was a little surprising. For those curious, Mifepristone is a legal drug and has been available at select pharmacies since 2023, but companies like Inspire are hoping to limit where it can be sold.

If you are someone who chooses to use an abortion pill, know that Costco will not be the place to look, but other pharmacies do have those options. Some customers will be proud of Costco for their decision, while others will be disappointed, but it is worth noting that it was actually the customers and their demand for the product that made this decision ultimately for the retail chain.
