Change to Idaho Fair Has Many Upset This Year
It is almost that time of year again. Time to stuff your face with deep-fried food, scream as you ride carnival rides, and enjoy the smells, the sounds, and the vibes of the fair. Fair season has begun in Idaho, as week by week, a new fair in a different county is popping up. Some prefer to only attend the fair closest to them, and others like checking out the different ones to see what they have to offer. The fair is always an exciting time, and there is something for everyone, especially in Idaho. One fair in Idaho has made a major change this year and has many upset, due to the lack of a certain booth that won't be there this year.
Tater Pig Will Not Be at Twin Falls County Fair
Throughout the years, there have been certain booths and vendors you expect to see at the fair. As the fair approaches each year, those attending get excited to enjoy certain foods they get only at the fair, shop at certain booths that only come through during the fair, and enjoy rides they only get to ride on when the fair is in town. For 70 years, one booth has been at the fair every year, and most look forward to it each year, but after seven decades, this year the booth will not be at the fair, but it isn't by choice. Tater Pigs are a food that many residents in Twin Falls enjoy each year, but they will not be returning due to the fair demanding more money, claiming Tater Pigs didn't make enough profit last year, and asking them not to return for the fair in 2025.
Tater Pigs at the Twin Falls County Fair
For those that have never had a tater pig before, take a baked potato, hollow it out, put in a breakfast sausage, and cover it with whatever you like. According to the owners of Tater Pigs, the fair decided to cut the booths that made the least amount of profit last year, and that included Tater Pigs. That isn't the whole story, though, as many booths mark up their prices for fair time, and Tater Pigs is more about giving customers what they want at affordable prices. They don't only feed the customers, they also feed those working the fair, the 4-H children, and their parents. They often fed them breakfast before the gates opened, with their breakfast burritos being the popular choice. The money raised during the fair for Tater Pigs isn't for paying bills; it all goes towards the traveling barber shop quartet at Magic Chords Barber Shop so they can travel and compete in competitions.

In the past, there have been times when customers have bought a ticket into the fair only to get a tater pig and leave. It has been a long-standing tradition at the Twin Falls County Fair, and sadly, unless something changes in the next couple of weeks, it looks like this year we all will have to go without a tater pig, as sadly, they don't do any other events throughout the year.
