Shopping is a major part of the holiday season, and going in and out of stores can be chaotic this time of year. Everyone is running to the grocery store to get food for big meals with friends and family, and many have already begun Christmas shopping as well. Going to the store can be stressful this time of year, which is why many do online shopping, but there are some things you have to go to the store to get. Despite it being the busiest time of year for stores, many places will be closing on the same day this month, leaving some devastated.

It used to be that many stores stayed open on Thanksgiving, or closed for the morning and would open later in the day to begin the holiday shopping, but during the pandemic, many companies decided to change this and close entirely for Thanksgiving, and open early on Friday, as they used to. This allows employees to enjoy a day off before the holiday chaos, and to let them enjoy a day with their families and enjoy a proper Thanksgiving meal. Despite being some of the most popular and biggest retail stores in the country, Costco, Walmart, and Target are all going to be closed. They will all reopen on Friday for Black Friday shopping, but if you need anything for Thanksgiving, make sure you get it before or live without it. Below are other stores that will be closed on Thanksgiving:

  • Best Buy
  • CVS: Varies by location
  • Home Depot
  • JCPenney
  • Kohl’s
  • Lowe’s
  • Sephora
  • Ulta

While all of these will be closed, there will still be some stores open for you if you desperately need anything.

If you desperately need to run to the store, it is nice to have options, but most stores will be closed across the Gem State on Thanksgiving. Make sure to do as much of your shopping as you can before the holiday, and try not to forget anything. Your options will be limited, and these employees want a relaxing day if they have to work.
