Can the Holidays Cause People to Be Paranoid in the Gem State?
The holiday season is supposed to be the most wonderful time of the year, but it can also be a stressful one. The amount of money it takes to get everything you want for everyone during the holidays can be overwhelming and take a toll. Trying to get shopping done while working, taking kids to school, and doing normal daily activities can be exhausting. It can be stressful trying to pack and get ready to travel for the holidays, or getting food and the house ready if you are hosting this holiday season. The holidays are stressful, which leads to anger, fatigue, and can even lead to paranoia for some in the Gem State.
Holiday Paranoia in Idaho
With everyone on the go and being busy with shopping, traveling, and working this time of year, it can often seem like everyone is out to make your life miserable. Holiday shoppers can be enough to make you question what people are thinking, and driving during the holidays will test your patience as well. With school being out, many kids have free time and are looking for ways to entertain themselves, and in small Idaho towns, this can make some people nervous, as minors can be unpredictable when they have too much free time. Sadly, society has raised us to question everyone and everything these days, and with porch pirates, holiday theft, and people messing with holiday decorations, it is understandable that people are paranoid this time of year.
Are People in Idaho Too Paranoid?
The fact that nearly everyone has doorbell cameras, security cameras outside their homes, and cameras in their homes tells you that most of society is paranoid and trusts nobody anymore. Recently, my son and I were at a friend's house, and my son was exploring the home. It was a duplex, which was confusing for him, as he assumed our friend owned the entire property. He opened the neighbor's garage door, not knowing what was inside or that it belonged to someone else. Later, the neighbor came to me to tell me my son had broken into his garage, broken stuff, and stolen things as well. The problem is, my son opened the unlocked door, looked in, and shut the door as I came around the corner to tell him that it was someone else's home. I understand the man had my son on camera opening the door, but having seen him, I know he never went in and broke anything or stole anything. It was a kid being a kid. The man clearly was paranoid and is an example of how people assume everyone has a hidden agenda and is up to no good.

While the above may be a unique example, it shows where people are at these days. As kids, we used to hop fences, go into people's open garages on our bikes, and play in people's backyards. It was normal, and our agenda was to be kids and have fun. Kids today are still the same, but as adults, we assume every child wants to steal, damage property, or is up to no good. While some kids do these things, not all of them do. During the holidays, this paranoia gets worse, and many will assume that kids are trying to do things they shouldn't. Relax, give people the benefit of the doubt, and enjoy the holidays instead of being uptight.
