As someone who has kayaked for over 30 years all over the western United States, I can honestly say that Idaho is a premiere destination for the hobby. There's one lake 150 miles north of Twin Falls that'll take you about three hours to get there, but you'll find out immediately upon launching from the shore why people love the spot so much.

There are few things in life that bring me more joy than being out in a kayak. It's the connection with nature and the water that makes the experience so special. It's an escape for most, and when the scenery is amazing like it is in the Sawtooth Valley, it creates memories that last.

Stanley Lake is a crown jewel in southcentral Idaho.

I first discovered Stanley Lake in 2007 when I went with my wife's family on a summer camping trip. After all these years, I still remember driving over Galena Summit for the first time and descending down off the mountain into the stunning Cathedral Pines meadow. Once you travel to this area of Idaho, you never forget it, and the Sawtooth Valley remains my favorite place to visit in the state.

Of course, the real gem of Stanley Lake is McGown Peak, which towers nearly 10,000 feet above the water and if you find the right spot, the reflection off the water is hard to describe with words.

If you've never been, you have to go.
