When it comes to work and school, there are certain days that nobody wants to go. It can be you stayed up too late the night before, you aren't feeling the best, you are tired, you are overworked, perhaps you are stressed, or maybe your body is telling you to stay down and not functioning properly that day. When it comes to missing days of work, you are only granted so many days off per year. When it comes to school, if you are in college, it is your choice to attend class or not, but you may pay the price for missing. Sometimes you need to have an excuse to miss a day or two, but only so many grandparents and pets can die, and if you aren't sick enough, you may get called out. Sometimes telling the truth is the best way to go, and here are some of the best excuses to skip work that most bosses will not get mad at in Idaho.

A Wild Animal is on the Porch

Typically a wild animal on your porch would consist of a squirrel, a bird, or maybe a raccoon, and odds are they would flee the moment you come out. If you by chance walk out and there is a moose, a bear, a wolf, or even an elk or deer on your porch or in your driveway, then you have a good excuse to call work and let them know you are going to be late or not coming in today. The nice thing about this excuse is that most companies will tell you to be safe and come in when you can, but it is easy to throw it out there and hope that work accepts it, without it being true. You can get a couple more hours of sleep, and stroll in hours later letting them know the creature ran off or Fish and Game came and helped relocate it.

One thing about living in Idaho is that most people enjoy hunting. This excuse isn't so much a lie to get out, as being truthful and telling your boss you and some friends are going hunting, or that you are going alone. In many states, this excuse wouldn't make bosses happy, but in Idaho, your boss may ask to tag along or wish you luck on your hunt.

Just like hunting above, fishing is a big deal in Idaho, and taking a day or two off work to go on a fishing trip or coming in late to do some fishing in the morning is unacceptable in most states, but in Idaho, your boss again, may wish you luck or see if they can tag along. They may ask you to bring some in, depending on what you are fishing for and how much you catch.

COVID and Sick Kids in Idaho

Yes, this excuse can be used anywhere, but in Idaho, the sick kid excuse is even more justified than in other places. Ask people in southern states or coastal states how often their kids are sick, and then think about how often the kids in schools in Idaho get sick. It seems this year has been awful in terms of illnesses and makes for a good excuse to stay home. This one is also easy to stretch the truth, as no boss will question a parent staying home with a sick child. This also protects you from having to fake a disease and using your child to get out of work. Using COVID will grant you a few days instead of just one.

Ask somebody that has never been to Idaho what they know about it and you are sure to get a decent amount of answers saying the blue turf and the Boise State Broncos. The Broncos are the main team in Idaho, which is why many bosses will be understanding if you need to take the day off and watch the bowl game they are playing in, or perhaps watch the basketball team during the conference tournament or the NCAA tournament. Depending on your boss, they may take the day off too, or encourage everyone to go home and watch the game.

Rodeos are a huge thing in this part of the country, which is why if you need to take off work to go to one, take your child to one to participate, or perhaps participate in one yourself, most places would be understanding. Not many states will grasp the rodeo environment and all that goes into one, as well as let their employees off to attend one or be in one. In Idaho, your boss will likely ask how it went the following day and be jealous they couldn't go themselves.

With the mountains being close, many Idahoans know how to snowboard and ski. While you can go on weekends, the mountains are always less crowded in the week, making for a better trip. Taking a few days or a day to hit the slopes is justified, especially after good snow. Let your boss know you need a day on the slopes and they may ask where you are going and to enjoy your time, more than they would be upset at you taking time off.

My Cows, Goats, Or Horses got Out

While not everyone owns a farm or animals, there is a good amount in the area that do. Sometimes things happen and those animals get out. Unlike a dog or a cat that you can throw into the car and take back home, a cow or horse is a little bit more difficult. Calling into work and letting your boss know your animals got out and you need to get them back into the pasture or on your property, odds are they will understand and wish you luck. Many states wouldn't be understanding to this problem.

While taking off work seems like a time to come up with a story or a lie, sometimes using these excuses and exaggerating them a tad is a better way to go. These excuses may not work in other places, but in Idaho, they are justified and real reasons to miss a day of work or school. The next time you need a day off, but aren't truly sick or taking a vacation, look at this list and see which one fits you best, and then enjoy a day off and spend it doing whatever you want.
