5 Best Reasons To Live in a Small Idaho Town
When it comes to living in Idaho, most people think of Boise. It is the only place most people know in the state, but residents and those who have visited Idaho, know that the Gem State is filled with some incredible small towns. Some beautiful ones in the mountains, some near the canyon, and others that are little farm towns. Each offers something different. While living in one of the bigger towns or the city is nice, there is something about living in a small Idaho town that can't be beaten. Here are a few reasons why living in a small Idaho town makes for the best living in the Gem State.
Lack of Traffic in Idaho Towns
One of the best parts about living in a small Idaho town is the lack of traffic. Even though some of the bigger towns aren't terrible with traffic, they still have more than the small towns. It is nice to be able to drop your kid off at school and be home in minutes. If you forget something at home, you can go back home and get it, and be back at your destination in ten minutes or less. You are more patient and less angry behind the wheel when driving through a small town.
Everyone Knows Everybody in Small Towns
Something is calming about knowing your neighbors, who your children go to school with, and being familiar with the community. When you live in a small town you see the same people daily and weekly. This can be viewed as a bad thing if there is an issue between people, but it is nice to know who the parents on your children's sports teams are, being familiar with teachers and staff in school, those in your church, and those who live on your street.
Feeling Safe in Small Idaho Towns
Less people typically means less crime, and in a small town most individuals feel safe. Yes, from time to time some type of crime will happen and someone will do something they shouldn't but overall there is less danger and it makes for happier living. If you feel safe, you have less stress. You can't be carefree, because no place is entirely safe, but there is more of a calmness in a small Idaho town.
Running to the Stores in Small Towns
Similar to less traffic, running to the store in a small town is much more enjoyable than in bigger areas. With traffic, lights, and big parking lots, it can often take a good 10 to 15 minutes to even get inside a store in a bigger area, but in small towns, you can run to the store and back in that amount of time. It is possible to make a run to the grocery store during halftime of a game and not miss a single minute. Getting dinner is nice too, as a drive-thru has fewer people, and you can get food quicker as well.
Small Towns in Idaho Are Quiet
While there are always exceptions to this rule, overall small towns are more peaceful and quiet. With less residents and not as much to do as bigger towns, they are typically quiet making it nice for napping, sleeping through the night, or enjoying movies and shows. There isn't much to bother a person in a small town, and the only time it gets loud on a regular basis is if sirens are ringing throughout the town for an emergency.

Some will argue that big town life is better. There are more eating options, more shopping, and more to do, but overall life is much better in a small Idaho town. You can drive to a bigger area for all of those things, or spend relaxing quiet time in your small community and live a less stressful and angry life.
