It used to be that the only time food was delivered was for pizza, and the rest of the time people would make the drive to a drive-thru. Nowadays, people can have any fast food chain or any restaurant they want without having to leave the couch. The amount people spend on food delivery is outrageous and proves that Americans rather spend hard-earned money than have to leave the house. In a recent study by upgradedpoints.com, it was learned that 78.8 percent of Americans use delivery services. For those bad at math, that is over 3/4 of the population. The average person orders almost 4 delivery orders a month, at 3.7 monthly, which is about one takeout meal per week and spends on average $35.42 per order.

How Much Do Idahoans Spend on Food Delivery?

The average amount that Americans spend on food delivery services in a year is $1,566.57. The good news is that Idaho is well below the average at $1,224.42, but that still seems like a lot to spend on delivery services, when you could drive to get your food. Interestingly, the study reveals that 12.3 percent of Americans say no amount of savings would encourage them to get their food. Nearly half of the country prefers to use DoorDash as their delivery service, with 45.4 percent preferring them over any other service. When it comes to tipping, 75 percent tip between 15 to 20 percent.

While Idaho isn't as bad as other places, the lack of effort to get our food has increased and continues to do so. There are reasons behind using food delivery services, such as being sick, kids, weather, and other reasons, but most of it is a lack of wanting to leave the house.
