Fatal Crash on US95 North of New Meadows Involves Two Vehicles

NEW MEADOWS, ID – Idaho State Police (ISP) is investigating a fatal two-vehicle collision that occurred at 7:39 p.m. on October 16, 2024, on US95 near milepost 172.9, just north of New Meadows in Adams County.

Sequence of Events

An 80-year-old man from Riggins, Idaho, was driving a blue 1978 Datsun 280z northbound on US95 when he failed to negotiate a curve. His vehicle slid into the path of a southbound 2008 Dodge Ram 1500, driven by a 71-year-old man from New Plymouth, Idaho, resulting in a head-on collision.

Impact and Injuries

Both drivers were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash, but the Datsun was not equipped with airbags. The driver of the Datsun succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The driver of the Dodge Ram sustained minor injuries.

Road Closure and Investigation

US95 was blocked for approximately four hours as emergency crews worked to clear the scene. ISP continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
