Car accidents happen every day in every state. They sadly, seem to be inevitable, and it isn't uncommon to see a fender bender, a car totaled, or sometimes one upside down. Despite these happening commonly, many have to stop and look at the wreckage and take it in. While seeing the aftereffects of a car crash are one thing, watching them play out is entirely different. Not all crashes are created equal and over the weekend a unique one took place in the Magic Valley that is unlike most you will ever see.

On Sunday afternoon in Buhl, a red truck decided to go on a joy ride, but the problem was, that it forgot to have a driver. The truck took off down the street, into a neighborhood, with no driver behind the wheel. Miraculously, despite many parked cars on the streets, the truck missed all parked cars, animals, people, and houses, and ended up stopping after colliding with a tree. The tree will be missed, but nobody was harmed and no major damage occurred. The owner of the vehicle had fallen when trying to get into the moving truck but escaped with only minor scratches from the fall after nearly being run over after he fell.

While the world is evolving and self-driving vehicles have become a thing, on Sunday, I don't think that is what many are hoping for. Seeing a vehicle fly down the street, across a yard, and going directly towards a house is a scary situation to witness, but thank goodness the tree got caught under the truck before any major damage was done. A tree can be replaced and is minor damage compared to crashing into a car, hitting a pet, or taking out a person. The truck was eventually towed, but sadly, the tree wasn't able to be saved despite the best efforts of those present.

The good news is that everyone had a laugh about it afterward and that everyone and everything is ok, other than that precious tree. The moment could have been much worse, but thanks to the heroics of a tree, nobody's house was damaged, nobody's car was hit, and no people were hurt. While the world may think they are ready for self-driving vehicles, perhaps we have a little bit more to go, before they are truly reliable.
