What would you do? What would you do if you found a dog, a cat, or a pet roaming the streets, picked it up to help it, and fell in love with it the moment you petted it or held it? It is a tough dilemma, as the animal belongs to somebody else, but may be a perfect fit for your family. Does the type of animal matter? Does the breed of dog matter? Does it depend if your kids are with you? Does the age of the animal matter? There are many animal lovers in the area, and there are some pets that are so adorable and so loveable, that it is tough to give them back to where they go. If you were in this situation, what would you do?

Many animals get out in the Magic Valley, and many strays call the area home. From time to time one will end up in your yard, or perhaps you see one driving down the road that looks scared, and you decide to see if you can help it. Most times when someone helps an animal on the loose, their goal is to return it home, but when an animal doesn't have a tag, and it turns out to be the sweetest, cuddliest, and most adorable animal you have ever seen, the intent can change quickly. Perhaps you have added a new member to the family without planning on it. If your children are with you, they may pressure you into it as well. It is tough to give up an animal that instantly connects with you and your family.

The problem with keeping this newly found dog or cat is that it means there is someone out there missing their pet. There could be some child missing their best friend, or a family missing their furry child. It is worth asking though, are you saving the animal from being neglected or mistreated? Perhaps the animal ran away for a reason and didn't want to return home. It is easy to say the collar or tag was lost, and hope you never run into the owners, but knowing that is morally wrong, would you be allowed to do it? Legally the animal belongs to someone else, so you are breaking the law, but unless they find out you have their animal, then it is likely there will be no consequences.

Certain animals come into your life that feel like fate. Knowing what the right thing to do and doing the right thing can sometimes be difficult. If an animal and a person connect, it is hard to say goodbye, and giving back an animal you have a new bond with, isn't easy. If you found a lost pet, specifically a dog or cat, and you had a connection, what would you do?
