What would you do? What would you do if your house had a pipe burst, a leak during a heavy storm, or water running too long and left part or all of your home under an inch or more of water? Would you decide to leave and call it quits? Would you move to a hotel until it gets fixed? Would you stand and cry for hours, and be shocked by what to do? Would you panic and run down the street and warn your neighbors of the great flood? Sadly, this is a reality that many homeowners have faced before, and it is one of the most unfortunate events for anyone who owns their home. There are options on what to do, but it won't be cheap, it won't be fun, and it will be miserable. If faced with a home that has flooded, what would you do?

What to Do If House Floods in Idaho

For any homeowner, there always seem to be some type of problems that need to be fixed. For some it can be small ones like an outlet not working, the sprinkler system needs to be fixed, or a room needing to be painted. For others, it can be major problems like there is no heat, the roof needs to be fixed, or the plumbing has issues. One of the worst-case scenarios to deal with for any homeowner is when the home has a flood. It can cause mold, can damage the foundation, and damage material items as well. The process of getting it fixed isn't cheap and can be a long, drawn-out process. Depending on the cause of the flood, there is likely plumbing that needs to be fixed or a leak, flooring will need to be changed out, and items may likely be lost or need to be replaced in some form. If faced with a flood in the Gem State what would you do? 

How to Handle Flooded Homes in Idaho

When a flood happens, you have to get as much as you can out of the rooms that have taken in the water, and likely those items will need to be put in storage, replaced, or stored in another room in the home. Then the floor needs to be dried out, and likely a long project will take place, making your living situation tough for the next few weeks or longer, depending on how bad the flood was. Do you decide to live in a hotel, which can be tough on families? Do you live with a relative or friend for a bit, which can strain relationships? Do you tough it out and live in the chaos while the home is being prepared, meaning you might be sleeping in the living room, your children's room, or not even on a bed some nights? There are options, but which is the best to do when facing this situation?

My wife and I are currently dealing with a situation like this, and so far have decided to stay in the home, but things may change as each project progresses when it comes to repairing the damage. Keeping things as normal as possible for our family seems like the best way to go, but if rooms have to be torn up, it could change our plans soon. Nobody wants to see their house damaged by water, but sadly, it has happened to many in Idaho and will happen to many more in the future. If you find your home is flooded, what would you do?
