Why Women Should Think About Leaving the State of Idaho for Good

When most people think of Idaho they think of tough outdoorsmen, farmers, and hunters. Rarely do people think about the women of Idaho. The problem is that not only does the general public forget about them, but the Gem State isn't the best state for women to be living in as well. Women's rights have come a long way over the years, but some states are still behind and Idaho appears to be one of them. What is the best state for women to live in, which is the worst and how does Idaho compare to the rest of the country?

The Best and Worst State for Women

WalletHub recently released a list of the best and worst states for women in the United States and used a couple of categories to determine this, such as women's economic and social well-being, and women's health care and safety. Using these criteria it was determined that Vermont is the best state for women to live in, with New York being second, and Massachusetts being third. The worst state for women in the United States is Oklahoma, with Mississippi being the second worst, and Louisiana rounding out the bottom three. 

Is Idaho a Good or Bad State for Women? 

When it comes to being a woman in Idaho, things could be much better. Since Washington DC is included on the list, out of 51 states, Idaho ranks as the tenth worst state, coming in at 42. Idaho is 45 in women's economic and social well-being and 33 in women's health care and safety. To pile on to how bad things are for women here, the Gem State is the second worst state in median earnings for female workers, and that is adjusted to the cost of living, with only Hawaii being worse. Also to pile on more, Idaho is the fifth lowest percentage of women who own businesses.

While Idaho does still have a ways to go to make things more equal between men and women, it could be worse. Things have come a long way over the years, but until everything is truly equal, women will keep fighting for their rights. It is easy to tell them to move if they don't like it, but they shouldn't have to.
