What would you do? What would you do if you expected your child to come home from school, only to have them not arrive or the bus not show up when expected? Would you panic and assume an accident had happened? Would you call local officials? Would you call the school? Would you enjoy the peace a little longer? This is a situation you would not expect to deal with, but it recently happened in the Magic Valley and left parents in a panic. What would you do if your child's school bus got lost?

Recently, a school bus in Jerome sent parents into a panic when it got lost and had kids waiting far longer than was expected. The bus driver was confused by the route and had kids hours after they were supposed to be home, sending parents into a panic as they didn't know where their children were, what happened, or why the bus never showed up. As a parent, it had to be terrifying not knowing what was going on. Buses run late all the time, and when a bus is ten minutes or twenty minutes late, that is understandable, but when the clock reaches an hour, two hours, or more, then it becomes concerning and causes chaos. If your child were not to be dropped off as planned, how would you handle it moving forward?

The natural reaction for any parent would be scared or worried, but if talking to other parents and finding out their child was not dropped off as well, would it put you more at ease, or make you more worried that something happened at school or on the bus? After something like this happens, would you change how your child is taken to and from school, hope it is a one-time thing, or decide to homeschool your child and overreact entirely? It must have been a scary situation for all involved, but what is the proper way to handle it?
