A highway accident in Northern Idaho on Monday evening took the life of one person and sent two others to the hospital with injuries.

The crash happened a few minutes after 2:30 PM on Monday, December 8th, on US 95 in Bonner County, a few miles south of Sandpoint.

Idaho State Police are investigating the accident, which involved two trucks and three occupants. The ISP report says the accident happened at the US 95 intersection with E. Dufort Road, as does the social media post from the Idaho Transportation Department, while the Idaho 511 alert yesterday said the accident happened further north at mile marker 470, near Shop Road.

The accident blocked all lanes of traffic for around 3 hours. The Idaho State Police report says the following regarding the occupants and vehicles involved in the crash:

  • A Dodge Dakota driven by a 60-year-old female and occupied by a 63-year-old male passenger attempted to cross US 95 and was struck by a Dodge Ram that was traveling northbound on US 95.
  • The Dodge Ram was driven by a 65-year-old male who was wearing his seat belt.
  • The occupants of the Dodge Dakota were not wearing seat belts, and the driver succumbed to her injuries at the scene.
  • The passenger of the Dodge Dakota and the driver of the Dodge Ram were transported to the Local Hospital for their injuries.

People on social media have been expressing their concerns on the Idaho Transportation Department Facebook page about the intersection where the fatal accident happened.

Idaho 511 is also showing a current accident blocking all lanes near the Idaho/Montana border on US-12 at mile marker 157.
