
What is Going on Around Coeur d’Alene? 3 ISP Reports in Less Than a Week
It hasn’t been a good last few days in the Coeur d’Alene area.
Idaho State Police have released 3 separate news releases regarding dangerous driving incidents in the last week.

The police response included a pursuit where spike strips and a PIT maneuver were required, a vehicle driving in excess of 100 miles per hour, and a chain reaction crash that involved 7 vehicles.

2 of the accidents happened north of Coeur d’Alene near the small town of Hayden, which was recently listed as one of the most expensive small towns in Idaho. This map shows where the 3 accidents happened and shows how close they were to each other.
One of the situations started around 30 miles from Coeur d’Alene. Police pursued a suspected DUI vehicle from around Pinehurst to Lake Coeur d’Alene. That pursuit ended in the deployment of spike strip by officers to deflate the fleeing vehicle’s tires and then a PIT maneuver to finalize the stop.

The other 2 scary accidents happened just a few miles from each other. The Idaho State Police reports state that one accident happened around mile marker 438 on US 95 while the other happened around mile marker 445 on the same stretch of highway.
One of those accidents caused a chain reaction of accidents and damage that ended up involving 7 vehicles when a truck struck an SUV waiting to make a turn on US95. Debris hit other vehicles which caused more accidents and damage.

The final accident involved a car driving at reported speed in excess of 100 miles per hour. The vehicle wasn’t involved in a police pursuit, they were just driving excessively fast. They ended up hitting a vehicle that was moving through an intersection.

Accidents and dangerous situations aren’t unique to the CDA area, but 3 as crazy as those in such a close timeframe and proximity to each other is scary.
