Your Best Chance to Catch Fish in Idaho Happens at These Lakes in July

July is going to be another huge month for fishing in Idaho. Idaho Fish and Game has plans to release more than 110,000 rainbow trout into fishing holes across the state.

We’ll highlight the lakes and waterways that will be getting the most fish and when they are expected to be stocked, plus how to see if your favorite spot will be getting any fish.

More Than 110,000 Catchable Fish Will Be Stocked in Idaho Lakes in July

My family has been fishing in Dierkes and Centennial since early spring and we have seen a steep decline in the number of fish we catch each time. Lately, probably the last 3 or 4 weeks, all we have caught are bluegill, which are easy to catch and are delicious by the way.

Here’s Where to Catch Some of the More Than 110,000 Recently Stocked Fish in Idaho

The fish stocking has started across the state, with thousands of fish released in the first week already. You can search through all the waterways on the IDFG website, but here are the locations that will receive the most fish this month in each of the 7 regions of Idaho.

• Panhandle Region - Gene Day Pond will get 900 rainbow trout while Elsie and Lower Glidden Lakes will each get 810.
• Clearwater Region - Elk Creek Reservoir is the big winner in July with 3,000 rainbow trout between July 6th and 10th.
• Southwest Region - Payette Lake is going to be filled with 5,000 fish, along the Boise River there will be around 7,500 fish dropped (plus 3,800 more in the Magic Valley Region), and the Payette River will get about 5,000 trout.
• Magic Valley Region - Big Trinity Lake will get 2,000 at the end of the month, Gavers Lagoon/Hayspur will get a few visits for a total of 1,425 trout, Lake Cleveland will get 3,000 between the 6th and the 10th of July.
• Southeast Region - Little River Reservoir, Montpelier Creek, Pebble Creek, and Toponce Creek will each get 1,000 rainbow trout in July.
• Upper Snake Region - Henry’s Fork is the big winner in the Upper Snake with 3,350 fish being stocked, half in the second week and the rest in the final week of July. Gem Lake follows closely behind with 3,000 at the end of the month and Birch Creek will get 2,700 delivered at two different times.
• Salmon Region - The Salmon River will be given a healthy dose of 13,360 trout across four sections of the river. Stanley lake will get 2,100 fish, Valley Creek gets 2,000, and Hayden Creek Pond will get 1,100 fish this month. Additionally, Iron Lake will get 2,000 Tiger Trout between the 13th and 17th.
