Getting surprise money is always awesome. I remember one winter, I put on my coat that had been in storage for a year and found a $20 bill in the pocket. That was awesome.

I found out about the extra money in an email that I thought was a scam at first, saying that my settlement money had been deposited in my PayPal account.

It wasn’t a scam. I checked my account and had a new transaction of $33.26 from the ‘Facebook Consumer Privacy User Profile Litigation Settlement’. Then, I remembered a story we had published a few days ago that some people would be getting money from Facebook.

I don’t remember doing it, but apparently, back in 2023, I had filled out a necessary form to be part of the settlement proving that I had a Facebook account between 2007 and 2022.

The money is part of a $725 million payout after Facebook was caught sharing our private information with third-party companies without permission.

My email confirmation came from PayPal with the subject line: Your Facebook Consumer Privacy User Profile Litigation Settlement Payment. I don’t know if that is how it will be for everyone else, but it’s worth checking your accounts to see if there’s any surprise money in them. Do remember that we live in a world of scams, so don’t click on any links in an email that you are uncertain about.

I was able to verify the funds without clicking on any email links. The bad news here is that if you didn't fill out a claim by August 25, 2023, you aren't going to get any money.
