We have been pretty lucky over the last few weeks that the weather cooperated with the night sky events.

Recently the Moon, Venus, Mercury, Jupiter, and Mars were all visible together and for most of us it was a clear night. Now we get to see a Total Lunar Eclipse as long as these clouds move out in time, because the eclipse is tonight.

One night, about a week ago, while driving with my family, we had to pause for a moment as the moon was just a bright orange sliver on the western horizon with a bright planet glowing above it.

The next big sky event will be a Total Lunar Eclipse, and it’s been 2 years since we’ve seen one in our area.

A Total Lunar Eclipse is a great celestial event to see because, as the Earth moves directly between the Sun and the Moon you get a multi-colored Moon.

This eclipse will be special because we’ll have a perfect view of it as long as the sky is clear. Unlike some of the recent solar eclipse events where we had to travel for a good view, this one you’ll be able to see from your backyard.

Total Lunar Eclipse Timeline For Idaho, Washington, and Utah Tonight

The Total Lunar Eclipse for March of 2025 will happen overnight between March 13th and 14th.

  • For Utah and Idaho, and the rest of the Mountain time zone, the eclipse will begin on the 13th at 11:09PM. Mid eclipse will happen at 12:58AM on the 14th and the eclipse will end at 2:47AM. Eclipse totality occurs between 12:26 and 1:32AM on the 14th.
  • In Washington, and the rest of the Pacific time zone, the eclipse will begin on the 13th at 10:09PM. Mid eclipse will happen at 11:58PM on the 13th and the eclipse will end at 1:47AM on the 14th. Eclipse totality last between 11:26AM and 12:32AM.
