Jennifer Lawrence and Amy Schumer Teaming Up to Write and Star in Upcoming Comedy
Earlier this summer, Trainwreck star Amy Schumer tweeted photos of her partying with newfound BFF Jennifer Lawrence in The Hamptons. Now, it seems like Schumer and Lawrence are more than just party pals, they’re future co-stars. Lawrence revealed the new friends are currently writing a script together that they plan to star in.
Lawrence was speaking to The New York Times to promote The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 2 when the actress went off-topic (as she is wont to do) and the Oscar-winning star revealed the upcoming partnership. “We play sisters. We’re almost done writing. It just flowed out of us. We’ve got about 100 pages right now.” She later explained how mutual admiration led to partying, which led to a screenplay:
I emailed her after I saw Trainwreck and said, ‘I don’t know where to get started. I guess I should just say it: I’m in love with you.’ We started emailing, and then emailing turned to texting […] Amy and I were creatively made for each other. It’s been the most fun experience of my life. We start the day off on the phone, laughing. And then we send each other pages. And we crack up. I’m flying out tomorrow to see her in Chicago. We’ll write a little bit with her sister, Kim, who worked with Amy when she was writing Trainwreck.
Schumer confirmed the news on Twitter, but declined to elaborate. No other talent is attached to the untitled Lawrence/Schumer film, but Trainwreck director Judd Apatow seems like a natural fit for the project.
The film would be the first comedy for Lawrence who has shown her ability to make people laugh in her many public appearances. (She reportedly filmed a cameo in Dumb and Dumber 2, which was cut from the film.) Schumer is currently writing an action-comedy for Paul Feig (Bridesmaids) at Fox, but has yet to decide on her next project. Lawrence recently wrapped production on X-Men: Apocalypse and is set to begin filming on Passengers with Chris Pratt later this year.
