This week at the Twin Cinema 12, Gwyneth Paltrow is “Country Strong.” Here’s the synopsis from IMDB.com:

A drama centered on a rising country-music songwriter (Hedlund) who sparks with a fallen star (Paltrow). Together, they mount his ascent and her comeback, which leads to romantic complications involving her husband/manager (McGraw) and a beauty queen-turned-singer (Meester).

“Country Strong” is rated PG-13 for thematic elements involving alcohol abuse and some sexual content.

Colin Firth, known to audiences for his memorable roles in Bridget Jones’ Diaries, takes on the role of King George VI of Britain in “The King’s Speech.” From IMDB.com:

The story of the man who became King George VI, the father of Queen Elizabeth II. After his brother abdicates, George ('Bertie') reluctantly assumes the throne. Plagued by a dreaded stammer and considered unfit to be king, Bertie engages the help of an unorthodox speech therapist named Lionel Logue. Through a set of unexpected techniques, and as a result of an unlikely friendship, Bertie is able to find his voice and boldly lead the country through war.

Also new this week is “127 Hours” starring James Franco. Franco has given up his Goblin Glider from the Spider-Man movies and takes on the true story of Aron Ralston, a climber from Moab, Utah. From IMDB.com:

127 Hours is the true story of mountain climber Aron Ralston's remarkable adventure to save himself after a fallen boulder crashes on his arm and traps him in an isolated canyon in Utah. Over the next five days Ralston examines his life and survives the elements to finally discover he has the courage and the wherewithal to extricate himself by any means necessary, scale a 65 foot wall and hike over eight miles before he is finally rescued. Throughout his journey, Ralston recalls friends, lovers, family, and the two hikers he met before his accident. Will they be the last two people he ever had the chance to meet?

And for the thriller fans, Anthony Hopkins takes on the taboo subject of exorcisms in the new film, “The Rite.” From Fandango.com:

Inspired by author Matt Baglio's nonfiction book of the same name, director Mikael Håfström's supernatural thriller traces the experiences of a young seminary student who discovers the true power of faith after being drafted into the Vatican's Exorcism School and confronted by the forces of darkness.

“The Rite” is rated PG-13 for disturbing thematic material, violence, frightening images, and language including sexual references.
