Multiple Fires Prompt Evacuations In Forest North Of Twin Falls
Idaho fire crews have their hands full battling a number of blazes northwest of Twin Falls that have prompted evacuations. The most recent fire started 70 miles north of Twin Falls near the community of Hailey.
As of Tuesday, September 3, Idaho fire departments are assisting in close to two dozen fires burning statewide, according to information found at wfca.com. The Glendale Fire is one of the most recent emergencies, as it's spread to over 10,000 acres with zero percent containment. Amateur videos of the blaze have been uploaded to YouTube by motorists passing through the area.
Residents between Hailey and Sun Valley should work on clearing defensible space around their homes and monitor the situation very closely.
The Glendale Fire has caused numerous residents to have to flee their homes in the area of Croy Canyon, according to eyesonsunvalley.com. The Wapiti Fire, Bench Lake Fire, and the Bulltrout Fire have also caused evacuations and combined have charred more than 112,000 acres, according to current Idaho fire map data on inci.wildfire.gov.
Warmer temperatures and light winds are expected this week for the Hailey area, according to weather.com, which could pose problems for fire personnel into the weekend. Residents between Hailey and Sun Valley should work on clearing defensible space around their homes and monitor the situation very closely. Only 13 miles separate the two communities in the southcentral portion of Idaho.
Bottled water, batteries for radios, and non-perishable food are all good supplies to have during times of a wildfire. Watch for fire crews to be driving near surrounding neighborhoods in the coming days with updates.
