Napoleon Dynamite 2 Buzz Growing: It Could Be ‘Sweet!’ For Idaho
The 20-year anniversary of Napoleon Dynamite is currently being celebrated by fans all over the world. The actor who portrayed the geeky but loveable character has been very busy promoting his favorite snack and has gone on record as saying he's pumped about the prospect of possibly giving the film a reboot.
Napoleon Dynamite came out in 2004 and put the small Idaho community of Preston on the map. The film was a sleeper at the box office but morphed into a cult classic thanks to word-of-mouth and the DVD release. Jon Heder, who plays Napoleon in the movie, became an overnight celebrity because of the role and has been very active lately stoking the sequel fire by appearing in commercials and showing up on talk shows.
I think Idaho would embrace another Napoleon film. I know I'd love to see a sequel. Perhaps we will soon see what a 40-year-old Napoleon Dynamite is up to on the "big screen".
Heder, whose film career hasn't exactly exploded in the past decade, is currently teaming up with Pittsburgh-based snack food company Ore-Ida. He's shooting a series of ads promoting Tater-Tot protective pants; tots are Napoleon's favorite comfort food... of course. "GOSH!"
Heder also appeared on the Jimmy Kimmel Show recently and has been quoted as saying he's down to play the role again, according to IMDB. Be on the lookout for film crews in the near future cruising through southeastern Idaho, where the majority of filming for the first movie took place.
