Child profanity is something that many parents don't tolerate. Kids pick up bad words from peers and parents, and a recent study seems to imply that more and more American parents are punishing kids less than in previous times over having a 'potty mouth.'
I remember getting the belt one day for saying the word 'bastard,' which translates to a 'mean, despicable, or disagreeable person,' according to the Internet. My older brother dared me to call my stepfather the word, and I wound up on the losing end of that short exchange.
My biological father--an Italian--thought it was funny when we cursed as youngsters, so, I preferred staying with him more after my folks divorced; he had a mouth like a jailer.

New Study Implies Modern American Parents Let Child Cussing Slide More
A 2026 C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital National Poll (via Parents.com) has found that less than half of today's parents in the United States hold children accountable when it comes to certain curse words and under certain circumstances. Obviously, there are words that most parents won't stand for, but the data does imply that child cussing isn't as frowned upon as it was in past decades.

Six percent of the parents surveyed even stated that cussing wasn't a big deal to them, according to the poll. Twelve percent said it depends on what word was said.
