It can take a while for one of these professionals to earn a customer's trust, and that often requires repeat business. From weddings and family portraits to couples shoots and corporate events, photographers have to have an eye for all types of requests.
Some people claim to have a professional background in photography and advertise themselves as such, but are really preying on innocent victims in a number of ways.

There's really no way to guarantee that someone who claims to be a photographer has a person's best interests in mind. I've paid one local photographer to shoot some family photos, and luckily, it worked out great.

The problem is that most freelance photographers have studios in their own homes, which can make it an uncomfortable experience for some. For young people, answering ads that offer to pay for a certain style of photography can be an invitation to abuse.
A Boise man was recently arrested for allegedly forcing a model to take part in a shoot against their will, an offense that carries kidnapping charges, according to MSN. A similar arrest happened in Utah a couple of years back, where a man posing as a photographer was arrested for sexual abuse against teenage models.
