July and August are the worst times of year to battle a certain tree bug known to run rampant in multiple states in the northwest. Disposing of them also results in a rather unpleasant odor that can take over your home, and they are everywhere in Twin Falls.

My first experience with an Elm Seed Bug infestation happened while visiting a relative in Twin Falls in 2007. There were so many in her backyard, that they were crawling under the window and we found them in our sheets upon waking up in the morning. While they don't pose any real health risk other than causing those who have a bug phobia to nearly lose their minds, the bug's poop does stain walls, and crushing them produces an odor unlike anything you've ever smelled.

The Elm Seed Bug often gets confused with Boxelder Bug, and they are attracted to Elm Trees, which is why they are sometimes referred to as Elm Leaf Beetles. My relative soon had her Elm Tree removed, and just like that, the infestation ended. City pest control can also come and spray late in the spring or early summer to help keep them away from your property. These bugs are a huge nuisance in Utah as well.

It's also a good idea to make sure there are no gaps in windows or doors. Doing some sealing of cracks and openings that could allow these pests into your home is fairly cheap and easy to do on your own.
