The 2016 awards season is already filled with nostalgia.

Oscars announced the return of former host
Chris Rock for the upcoming Academy Awards, and now previous
Ricky Gervais is returning to the stage. The official Golden Globes Twitter account revealed the news on Monday.

Gervais hosted the ceremony three times, in 2010, 2011 and 2012, despite the controversy he created. After his second stint, Hollywood Foreign Press Association president Philip Berk criticized the actor for his jokes and behavior, saying Gervais “definitely crossed the line.” The former Office star was much more restrained while emceeing his final ceremony, but it looks like the HFPA still loves him nonetheless.

While some may be thrilled for Gervais' upcoming return, we can't help but wonder why they didn't get more creative with their next host. After the wonderfully blissful three-year reign of Tina Fey and Amy Poehler (please come back), 2016 could've been a chance for the awards to start fresh with a new era of hosting. Did the HFPA not offer Amy Schumer enough money? Are Key and Peele on vacation that Sunday? We'll never know. See ya at the so-2012 Globes.
