TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KLIX) – Rock Creek Park on Saturday will close to motor vehicles for an undetermined time while crews repair the roadway.

Twin Falls County Parks and Waterways made the announcement on Friday afternoon.

Visitors will still be able to park their vehicles in the parking lot at the top of the hill, said Administrator Heather Smith, but they will not be able to take their vehicles into the canyon due to asphalt damage.

“It’s tearing apart,” she said.

The county will repair the asphalt, but Smith said it was not known when work will be completed.

“Keeping motorized traffic off of the roadway and parking areas will minimize further damage to the asphalt and protect the general safety of the public,” reads a notice from the county. “We are sorry for the inconvenience and appreciate the public’s cooperation.”

Smith said damage to the asphalt was mainly caused due to a rough winter.

"It's been a bad winter for roads," she said.
