Sentencing Set for Friday in Twin Falls Murder Case

TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — A man took a plea deal is set to be sentenced Friday after strangling a young woman in August 2016 in the basement of a Twin Falls home. In October, Glenn Joseph Tures, 46, plead guilty to killing Anessia Shaye Winterholer. In the plea deal, he plead guilty to first degree murder. He faces a life sentence in jail with a minimum of 35 years before being eligible for parole. Under the deal, if the agreement is vacated the state could pursue the death penalty. The sentence will ultimately be determined at Friday's hearing. As previously reported by KMVT, Tures went to police a few days after the death of 20-year-old Winterholer and admitted to killing her. The probable cause affidavit did not indicate any relation between the two, or any motive other than “he decided to strangle her once they were in the basement.” In November 2016, Tures mailed a hand-written letter signed to Judge Calvin Campbell along with a copy sent to KMVT claiming he was fit to stand trial. In December 2016, a judge and council decided Tures was not competent to stand trial at that time, and criminal proceedings were suspended. Following the assessment, he wrote a letter KMVT denying charges and claiming his innocence. In May, the courts set an August trial date for Tures, which was later vacated.
