Over the past decade, Idaho has been one of the country's leaders in reports of unidentified aerial phenomena (UAP). A mountain highway east of Boise has consistently logged incident reports to a national center that investigates strange incidents in the sky.

A white, blinking light was seen traveling at a high rate of speed and "shifting horizontally" at an estimated elevation of more than 30,000 feet, according to the witness. The object also had the ability to completely stop its motion, according to the NUFORC report.

The National UFO Research Center (NUFORC) has been investigating claims of alien visitation to the United States for decades. The center heads investigations in all 50 states and publishes detailed reports on its findings online.

Maybe it's the excitement of the impending reboot of The X-Files that inspired me to check the data logs of the NUFORC recently. One report caught my eye due to the location of the sighting. I remembered reports from the center that dealt with the same stretch of roadway near Aldape Summit on Highway 21.

Aldape Summit is located approximately 10 miles east of Boise and ascends to over 5,500 feet. Idaho recently led the U.S. in UAP sightings, and a large number of the state's past reports appear to originate within a 100-mile radius of Idaho's capital city.

The most recent sighting (report # 183379) was published on October 8, 2024. A white, blinking light was seen traveling at a high rate of speed and "shifting horizontally" at an estimated elevation of more than 30,000 feet, according to the witness. The object also could completely stop its motion, according to the NUFORC report.

One possible explanation for the high frequency of sightings in this region of Idaho could have something to do with the Mountain Home Air Force Base being located just 44 miles southeast of Boise.

Have you seen anything similar to this along Highway 21 in the area?
