I was visiting an area bar the other day with my wife and a sign hung in the entryway that read, "Check your guns at the door." I couldn't help but laugh at how that sign would be received in modern-day Idaho.
There have been political discussions about making background checks tougher, banning military-style weapons for civilians, and limiting the amount of artillery a person can buy in one transaction, but nothing to date that implies Americans will have to give up their guns anytime soon.
