Since the news that Spider-Man would be joining The Avengers in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, we couldn't help but wonder what that was going to look like. It was a possibility that many movie fans had hoped for for years, but were told was never going to happen. We didn't even let our minds think of what could be. Now that it's actually going to happen, our minds are reeling. What will it look like to have Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, Hulk, Black Widow and Hawkeye share the screen with Spider-Man? It was the news we’d all be hoping and wishing and waiting for: last night, Marvel officially announced that they’ve reached an agreement with Sony for a Spider-Man crossover, which could also allow for MCU characters to crossover into Spidey’s own films. On top of that, Marvel is teaming up with Sony for a new ‘Spider-Man’ movie, to hit theaters in 2017. But who will play the web-slinger? As predicted, it won’t be Andrew Garfield. We’ve got a little more info on Marvel and Sony’s plans, which shed even more optimistic light on this very positive (and super exciting!) news.

We spoke to Hugh Jackman earlier today for his upcoming movie ‘Chappie’ (we’ll have much more on that movie soon), and as we were making small talk, we asked Mr. Jackman whether he had heard the news yet about Marvel and Sony Pictures coming to terms on an agreement that would allow Spider-Man to crossover into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He had not. He was very surprised.

After the news that Marvel and Sony had come to an agreement to co-produce a new series of ‘Spider-Man’ movies, while also introducing the character into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, one of the items we immediately turned our attention to was Sony's planned ‘Sinister Six’ spinoff, which was deep into development and was teased all through last summer’s ‘Amazing Spider-Man 2.’ Director Drew Goddard (‘The Cabin in the Woods’) had been working on the film since last year (he even left Netflix’s ‘Daredevil’ series to focus on it) with a November 2016 release date planned. The future of that film seemed very tenuous this morning following the big announcement, but now comes news that the film is still in development at Sony.

By now you already know that Spider-Man is joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe as part of a new deal between Marvel and Sony. (By now you’ve also “SQUEEEE!”d about fifty times.) But this pact has ramifications beyond just the Wall-Crawler’s cinematic future. With Sony putting a new solo ‘Spider-Man’ movie on the release calendar for July 28, 2017, that’s necessitated some shuffling of Marvel’s own upcoming movies.

It was one of the most enticing bits of news to come out of the Sony e-mail hack: Marvel and Sony had deep discussions about introducing Spider-Man into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Marvel badly wanted Spider-Man to be a part of 'Captain America: Civil War', but despite the best intentions from all parties, a deal was never struck and progress was reset back to square one. But, has hope been restored? A new report suggests that Marvel and Sony returned to the negotiating table and have struck a deal for Spidey to make his spectacular debut in 'Avengers: Infinity War, Part 1'.

Tis the season for studios to release holiday-themed videos and e-cards featuring some of your favorite movie characters, and so far we’ve seen animated holiday greeting videos for ‘The Babadook,’ ‘Hotel Transylvania 2,’ and even SpongeBob Squarepants. But this new holiday video from Marvel takes things to a whole other level: it’s a stop-motion short featuring the villainous Thanos, who disguises himself as Santa for his latest evil plan … and then it sort of backfires.

Yes, it’s another round of leaked e-mails from that massive Sony hack, and yes, it’s another batch of information regarding the studio’s plans for their Spider-Man franchise. Following the underwhelming performance of ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2,’ Sony hasn’t quite known what to do with their only superhero property—and given that Spider-Man still has great franchise potential in the right creative hands, Sony appears to be coming at this problem from all angles. More leaked e-mails from the company shed light on Sony’s intentions to reboot the franchise yet again, as well as further details on their talks with Marvel for a crossover and how the directors of ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’ might be involved.

And the leaks keep coming from the now infamous, massive Sony hack. Over the last week we’ve learned a lot about the studio’s plans as other outlets have sifted through countless e-mails. The latest batch of information regards not just Sony’s upcoming plans, but the alleged plans of their rival studios, including Fox and Warner Bros.: The director for ‘Aquaman’ has reportedly already been chosen, Fox is planning a crossover between ‘X-Men’ and ‘Fantastic Four,’ and we have more info on the studio’s hopes for ‘Spider-Man.’

Those e-mails confirmed that Sony had indeed been discussing a potential Spider-Man crossover into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with the character making his debut in ‘Captain America: Civil War.’ Although the e-mails indicated that those talks between Sony and Marvel fell through, a new report has shed some light on what Marvel Studios would do with the character if they ever get him back.

It’s been a really rough time for Sony as the studio’s e-mails and sensitive materials have been hacked by a mysterious group, and confidential details have been leaking left and right. Imagine Spider-Man and the X-Men fighting alongside the Avengers—it would be the biggest film ever. Unfortunately, as the rights to these characters all belong to different companies, we might not see such a crossover in the near future. However, in a new interview, Marvel comics creator and icon Stan Lee addresses the potential for a major multi-studio crossover, and it’s the most hopeful answer we’ve gotten yet.
