Southern Idaho fans of the works of Edgar Allen Poe should leave an upcoming April weekend open for a unique event that celebrates the author. Live theatre, select readings, and cocktail pairing will be part of the event that is arriving in Twin Falls very soon for two consecutive nights.

Edgar Allen Poe may have died more than 175 years ago, but his stories are still celebrated worldwide. His famous works include The Tell-Tale Heart, The RavenThe Pit and the Pendulum, and The Masque of the Red Death. A Poe-themed, adult party will be set up soon for six evening showings for those in the Magic Valley who have been inspired by his poems and short stories.

Coctails paired with excerpts from four of his stories read live will be well worth the price of admission.

In 2014, I had the privilege of traveling to Philadelphia for a football game and also spent some time around North Seventh Street, in the Spring Garden neighborhood where Poe lived for a year with his wife and wrote The Black Cat, according to visitphilly.com.

After visiting the Liberty Bell, walking Market Street, grabbing a Philly cheesesteak from Jake's, and watching the Eagles destroy the then Washington Redskins, we toured the author's former home. I was in awe the entire time we walked the property.

The Edgar Allen Poe Speakeasy event is taking place April 17 and 18, with three shows planned for each night. Coctails paired with excerpts from four of his stories read live will be well worth the price of admission. Dressing in period attire is also welcomed. Shows will take place at 6 P.M., 8 P.M., and 10 P.M., according to feverup.com.

I hope to celebrate Edgar with all of his fans in Twin Falls; I'm still waiting for my sister-in-law to buy me a ticket.
