VIDEO: Idaho Trooper, Stranded Driver Nearly Hit on Interstate 84

BOISE, Idaho (KLIX)-An Idaho State Trooper and stranded motorists narrowly missed being struck by a pickup truck while pulled off to the side of the interstate in Meridian Wednesday morning.

According to Idaho State Police, the trooper was taken to the hospital for minor injuries and later released while the stranded motorists said he only had minor injuries and didn't need to be taken for treatment. State Police released video of the collision Wednesday afternoon. The officer had pulled up behind the stranded motorist who appeared to be fixing a tire on his Toyota car on the left side of the eastbound lanes of Interstate 84 near S. Ten Mile Road at just before 10 a.m. ISP said a car headed east started to slow down when it was struck by another vehicle creating a chain reaction that forced two pickups towards the patrol car and disabled Toyota. A white pickup sideswiped the patrol car, which had its emergency lights flashing, and then hit the back end of the Toyota, barely missing the trooper and man fixing his car. The trooper was able to jump backward over a concrete barrier while the stranded motorist got up out of the way in time. ISP used the incident to remind drivers to watch for emergency vehicles, "Traffic stops are very high risk. They're necessary to keep people safe on the road and to help those stranded, but we need motorists' help so we can all go home at night," said Idaho State Police Sgt. Brandalyn Crapo in a prepared statement. "Slowing down and moving over for emergency vehicles and workers isn't just a courtesy, it's the law. Drivers need to be alert to emergency lights and vehicles and always alert to what's happening around them. That keeps all of us safe." No other injuries were reported.
