When it comes to sea predators, the shark is the lion of the ocean. It's not often we see the prey become the predator, but that's exactly what unfolded in a Pacific Ocean bay in front of stunned onlookers.

The Monterey Bay is known for its many types of sea life. Otters, sharks, whales, dolphins, sea lions, and sea turtles all share this amazing habitat located 120 miles south of San Francisco. Having lived on Cannery Row for two years, I've spent many hours staring out onto the Bay and marveling at its beauty. I had a sea lion come within a few feet of knocking me out of my kayak years ago.

The sea lion literally made sushi out of the shark. Maybe it was payback over a previous clash that didn't go well for the sea lion.

The ocean is a violent environment. Clashes over territory and supremacy occur constantly, and sharks reign supreme over all other creatures...usually. Footage taken a few months ago in Monterey Bay continues to both wow and disturb viewers all over the planet.

In a rare turn of events, a sea lion was filmed going full-on Patrick Swayze on a shark, except unlike in the movie Roadhouse it wasn't a heart that got ripped out but a throat instead. The sea lion literally made sushi out of the shark. Maybe it was payback over a previous clash that didn't go well for the sea lion. People often forget that sea lions are pretty powerful creatures themselves, and more than capable of fending off a shark attack.
