WATCH: Montana Hiker Keeps Her Limbs By Being Polite To Grizzly
A woman hiking alone in Glacier National Park is incredibly fortunate to have the gifts of verbal communication and a pulse after crossing paths with a massive Grizzly. The hiker used politeness and calmness to escape a fate worse than death.
An encounter between a 31-year-old woman and a Grizzly bear in Montana is straight out of every hiker's worst nightmare. The incident happened a while back but has just recently gone viral for its level 10 measurement on the anxiety scale. Something tells me I would have met my fate that afternoon.
Bear attacks are probably the number one fear people who spend time alone in the wild have. This hiker was beyond fortunate to not have to undergo a complete body reconstruction following the encounter.
Amanda Wylie's video went global and was even picked up by Inside Edition a few weeks ago. At one point during her picturesque stroll through Glacier National Park's stunning backcountry, she noticed she was being trailed by a massive Grizzly. She then proceeded to do something most people wouldn't do in this situation, and that's remain calm and whisper to the animal to leave her alone.
I've had a couple of run-ins with bears in National Parks, but nothing like what this brave woman experienced. Years ago in Yellowstone, I was fortunate enough to get a photo of an unsuspecting Grizzly from about 100 yards away while it sat in some bushes and rested. I also had a black bear run into the side of my car while exiting Yosemite just a few years later; I was as confused as you are.
