It's been nearly 10 weeks since drone mania began to grip the United States after the first reports originated in New Jersey around the Thanksgiving holiday. A recent report of numerous drones flying in private airspace near a North Idaho airport has gained online attention after the details were published by an agency that investigates unidentified aerial phenomena (UAP).

People piloting drones in unauthorized areas isn't anything new, and the majority of the time these incidents take place, there's no real threat to the public. Drones being reported near airports and military bases is a major safety concern for the Federal Aviation Administration.

Idaho has recently joined several other states where suspicious drone activity is being reported almost weekly. Northern Idaho has been a hotspot for recent sightings. A recent report published by the National UFO Reporting Center based in Washington State details multiple drones seen flying in private airspace near the Coeur d'Alene Airport.

NUFORC incident report #186872 was released on January 14, 2025, in which witnesses described numerous drones flying "in a circular pattern" over residential homes and within close proximity to the local airport. The FAA sets guidelines for private drone use near airports, and just this week, a White House report was published that stated many of the November 2024 sightings in New Jersey were cleared by the aviation agency, according to abc7.com. The NUFORC report has yet to be confirmed by Idaho airport safety officials.
