The United States of America always has a great showing at the Olympics. Our athletes are seen in the majority of competitions...but we aren't the best at everything. Even the great Shawn White wasn't able to bring home a medal this year - U.S.A. overall does tend to dominate the snowboarding events. So, which country dominates each Winter Olympic sport?

Here are the stats from 1980 until now.

  • Germany - 37% of all luge medals and 55% of the golds.
  • Russia - 34% of all figure skating and ice dancing medals and 54% of the golds.
  • Canada - 33% of all curling medals and 33% of the golds.
  • South Korea - 28% of short track speed skating medals and 48% of the golds.
  • The U.S. - 25% of all snowboarding medals and 38% of the golds.
  • The Netherlands - 22% of all speed skating medals and 25% of the golds.
  • Switzerland - 22% of all bobsled medals and 18% of the golds.
  • Norway - 21% of all cross-country skiing medals and 28% of the golds.
  • Austria - 21% of all alpine skiing medals and 21% of the golds.
  •  Austria - 20% of all ski jumping medals and 18% of the golds.
  • And Norway - 14% of all biathlon medals and 19% of the golds.
