Winter Storm Preparedness
Due to weather and road conditions, vehicle slide offs have been occurring all over the Magic Valley for the last 24 hours. Residences report seeing drifts over 4 feet tall on some roadways.
The result of these weather and driving conditions is numerous school and city closures. The City of Twin Falls is urged everyone not to leave their house unless they had to.
The American Red Cross encourages everyone to be prepared for winter storms and natural disaster at all times. They have provided a full readiness supply list in case you are unable to leave your home on their website. Here are the most important things you will need:
- Water...one gallon per person per day
- Food...non-perishable, easy-to-prepare food
- Flashlight and Candles
- Battery-powered radio
- Extra batteries
- First aid kit [Available on the Red Cross Store]
- Medications (7-day supply) and medical items
- Sanitation and personal hygiene items
- Cell phone with chargers
- Extra cash
- Baby supplies (bottles, formula, baby food, diapers)
- Tools/supplies for securing your home
- Warm coats, gloves or mittens, hats, boots and extra blankets and warm clothing for all household members
- Alternate heating methods such as fireplaces or wood- or coal-burning stoves
