Winter Storm Watch This Weekend for Sawtooth, Wood River Valleys
Heavy snow is possible this weekend in parts of the Sawtooth and Wood River valleys.
According to the National Weather Service, snow accumulations could be anywhere from 6 to 12 inches on the valley floor and 10 to 16 inches on the ridge tops and elevation passes.
The Blaine County Sheriff's Office alerted residents about this weekend's forecast on its Facebook page.
The winter storm watch, which is in effect from Saturday morning through Sunday morning, is for the Stanley Basin and Sun Valley region, including the west central mountains, Big Hole mountains, Galena Pass, Pine Creek Pass and Victor. The following cities could also be affected: Galena, Ketchum, Stanley and Sun Valley.
The weather service urges motorists to monitor weather reports before traveling.
“Travel will likely be very difficult,” according to the NWS. “Heavy snow as well as blowing and drifting snow will reduce visibilities and create slick driving conditions.”
