Divorce is a sad life reality, especially when children are involved. A recent study has determined that married couples who have friends going through the process have an increased risk of their own marriages deteriorating.

Luckily, I've never had to go through the process of a divorce. I've legally had to share custody of a child, but thankfully that went relatively smoothly because my daughter's mother and I never married and worked out a joint system for the sake of our kid. I know people who have endured some horrendous divorces, and I have used their mistakes as inspiration to keep my present marriage healthy and solid.

It's safe to say that divorced people take more risks than married people because they have no one to answer to but themselves.

I was a child of divorced parents. My biological parents separated when I was five, but remained cordial to one another as I grew up. My dad was the more bitter of the two, but nothing that ever translated to any ugliness when my parents' lives crossed paths. My dad would joke often and say things like, "Don't ever get married. Enjoy your life."

A recent Forbes survey has found that married couples who spend a lot of time with divorced friends have a 75 percent chance of getting divorced themselves. Divorce is so common these days that bakers offer up marriage division cakes.

This doesn't mean that married people should cut off communication with divorced friends, but instead, maybe take marriage advice with a grain of salt from them. It's safe to say that divorced people take more risks than married people because they have no one to answer to but themselves.
