Lewiston Officers Injured by Accidental Gun Discharge
LEWISTON, Idaho (AP) — Two officers were taken to the hospital after a gun discharged in the basement of the Lewiston Police Department.
The Lewiston Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/1W6fFbh) that Police Chief Chris Ankeny says the gun fired Wednesday afternoon at the end of a training event and injured the hands of the two officers.
Police say the accidental discharge occurred after a Special Weapons and Tactics team training. The gun fired while it was in the process of being cleared. Clearing a semi-automatic weapon refers to removing the bullets from the gun by ejecting them from the chamber.
The department has initiated an internal investigation.
