Woman Pleads Not Guilty in 2 Coeur d’Alene Crashes

COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho (AP) — A woman accused of causing two crashes in Coeur d'Alene has pleaded not guilty to the charges in the case. The Coeur D'Alene Press reports 34-year-old Kara Powers faces felony counts of grand theft, aggravated driving under the influence and leaving the scene of an injury accident.

She entered the not guilty plea Thursday. Powers was allegedly driving on the wrong side of the road when she struck another vehicle in January 2014. A concerned citizen, Sheri Bullock, had pulled over and went to check out the crash when Powers allegedly got into the woman's vehicle and drove away.

Powers rear-ended a Dodge pickup, seriously injuring the truck's driver. Detectives say they found prescription medication in Powers' vehicle. Powers' attorney says his client was hospitalized for viral meningitis in 2014.
