When I think of people passing away from the flu, I always think of the elderly. Never do I think of the flu virus killing a 13-year-old girl, but it has tragically happened right here in Idaho.

I know a lot of people who don't get their flu shot. Many of them even claim that the only time they ever got the flu was when they got their flu shot. Regardless, the kids and I get vaccinated every year. I don't know the science behind it all, all I know is that a precious little girl, with her whole life ahead of her is no longer with us.

Liliana "Lilly" Isabel Juson Clark wasn't feeling well two days after Christmas, so her parents took her to Insta-Care. Lilly was given Tamiflu and sent home, but she returned to Insta-Care a couple days later struggling to breathe and with a greenish tint.

According to eastidahonews.com, Lily was taken to the hospital with oxygen levels at 60%. Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center diagnosed Lily as having pneumonia and methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus — a bacterium that causes infections. By the time Lily got to Primary Children's Medical Center in Salt Lake City, she had no brain activity and she passed away 4 days before her 14th birthday.

Lily is one of six flu related deaths in Idaho this winter. Please get vaccinated, wash your hands, and stay home if you are sick.
