In the next few months, many Americans will be notified through the postal service or by email about health insurance changes that will go into effect on January 1, 2026.

Health insurance is a vital part of life, and not having coverage can present major obstacles when it comes to having prescriptions filled promptly and the unexpected trip to the emergency room, especially if treatment is needed out of state.

The group of Americans most at risk of being impacted over the next eight to nine years are those on Medicaid, which is a national, low-income program that is governed by individual states. More than 16 million people are at risk of losing their coverage by 2034, according to data shared by the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities.
